  1. PWMBR is a small password program which replaces the Master Boot Record.
  2. Upon bootup you are greeted with a password prompt.  Entry of the chosen
  3. password directs the boot process to the original relocated MBR.  PWMBR
  4. was written to provide a reasonable form of easy to use security for
  5. those computers unequipped with BIOS password protection.

  7. Read PWMBR.DOC carefully BEFORE installing.

  9. It would also be good idea to scan for MBR (boot sector) viruses before
  10. installing as unexpected results may be obtained by PWMBR relocating
  11. some MBR virus programs.

  13. Even though PWMBR write protects itself to prevent unauthorized
  14. modifications, it is impossible to prevent a MBR virus from relocating
  15. or even overwriting PWMBR when the system is booted from an infected
  16. diskette.  Once an infection has occured, it may be difficult or
  17. impossible to remove PWMBR and anti-virus products may also be unable to
  18. remove the virus.  Because of this, PWMBR has the option of creating a
  19. restore utility diskette.  By simply attempting to boot from this
  20. diskette, both the PWMBR Master Boot Record and the original relocated
  21. MBR will be restored, instantly removing any MBR virus infection.  It is
  22. therefore a MUST that a utility diskette be created immediately after
  23. installation.
